Tailor made expeditions are a great way to complete your DofE Expedition Section if your school or organisation is unable to offer these or their dates don't work for you.
Maybe your school only has a limited number of spaces available for their expeditions or they don't offer the DofE Award at all, but you don't want to miss out on taking part. Or maybe you and your friends want to organise your own DofE expedition, so you can go on an adventure in an exciting location. Whatever your requirements, we can help you organise your own expeditions using dates and locations that suit you.
We also run DofE tailor made expeditions for organisations such as the Scouts, Army Cadets and charities.
Please contact us and we will be happy to talk to you about your requirements and how we can help. You can also visit our knowledge base to find out more information and sample programmes.
To set up a tailor made programme, there needs to be a minimum of 6 of you who want to take part. We can run tailor made expeditions with only 4 to 5 of you, but the per person cost is higher. It is also worth bearing in mind that the DofE requires you to have a minimum of 4 people in a team and if anyone has to drop out, the expedition can't continue.
For a tailor made programme, we charge £50 per person, per day. The overall cost depends on what level of the DofE Award you are completing. You can do your whole expedition section through us, or only part of it (for example, you might only need to do your qualifying expedition).
'Thank you so much for our Dofe, we all had an amazing time and you made it so easy to organise, which made the whole thing that much better. Please could you pass on or thanks to Mat as well - he was the best assessor we could've asked for and made it even more fun then we thought it could be!' Tailor-made Gold Expedition, Brecon Beacons.
If you are a charity or an organisation wanting help with your DofE expeditions, then please get in touch.
We can set up a tailor made programme to suit you and your group. We are a not for profit organisation and may be able to support your expeditions using our bursaries project.
'Adventure Expeditions provided an amazing, well-planned, and accessible expedition experience for a group of young disabled people aged between 18-19 years of age from Action on Disability. A lot of disabled young people rarely get the opportunity to explore nature, wildlife and campcraft skills; it is extremely important that they can access these opportunities in a safe and friendly way. During our time with Adventure Expeditions our young people developed a variety of skills including route planning, road safety and map reading whilst being pushed to their limits!'
Tamara Stuiver, Youth Progression Coordinator, Action on Disability.
It is entirely up to you where you would like to go for your expedition. Often there are fantastic natural areas on your doorstep and these can be perfect for Bronze or even Silver expeditions. Staying relatively local reduces transport costs and travel times.
For Gold, you will need to travel to an area of Wild Country (such as a National Park) to complete your expeditions. Have a look at our locations page for inspiration or give us a call, we're happy to give you ideas.
If you want to go on a real adventure, then you can also complete your Gold DofE qualifying expedition overseas. We regularly run expeditions in the Tatras Mountains in Poland/ Slovakia, the Julian Alps in Slovenia and the Provence in France to name just a few locations.
