The Peak District is situated in the heart of England and became the UK's first designated National Park in 1951. Our main office and training room are based in Hathersage in the Peak District so we look forward to welcoming you here!
Hathersage is easily accessible by train. Change at either Manchester or Sheffield and catch the Trans Pennine train to Hathersage. It's a 2 minute walk to our office and training room from the station.
Far-reaching views, rolling hills, heath and moorland, gritstone edges and crags. You will be walking along a mixture of rough paths and flagstones with some sections of tricky navigation required.
For the first two nights you will be staying in a local YHA or bunkhouse. Whilst on expedition you will be at basic campsites and farm sites. There is no wild camping on this expedition.
The Peak District is a popular choice for your Gold DofE expeditions due to its easy accessibility. We and the DofE recommend that you complete your practice and qualifying expeditions in two different locations.
However, if you prefer to do both your expeditions in the Peak District, then that's fine too. We use two separate wild country areas within the Peak District (Bleaklow to the North and Kinder Scout to the South) so your routes won't overlap.
Simply book onto your preferred dates and we will make sure that you complete your expeditions in the two different areas. Don't forget to check that your DofE Leader is happy with this too.
