Creative curriculum

Engaging and inspiring sessions can be delivered even in the most limited outdoor school spaces, taking a wide range of curriculum areas, key stages and topics outside. We come into school and bring outdoor education to you - no travel, no stress, just high quality learning through a range of engaging activities, tasks and challenges. Can be delivered as a full or half day session.

Focus can be placed on particular topics to cover specific areas of the curriculum (e.g. Science or Art based) or areas such as personal development (e.g. delivering a youth award or team building and leadership challenges). All sessions have strong cross-curricular links built in to maximise learning.

KS1 'Adventure Maths' days: using the outdoors to bring maths concepts to life. A fun problem solving day which can be linked to specific curriculum areas such as 'properties of shapes, position, direction and measurement';
'Animals and their habitat' day: going on a hunt for local wildlife and finding out ways to improve the school grounds to help wildlife thrive. This day also has a strong maths focus including counting, measuring and recording data;
'Amazing Emotions' session: combines personal development and health and well-being activities with literacy and creative arts activities.

Outdoor learning expertise

Our team includes qualified teachers (primary and secondary QTS), forest school practitioners and experienced outdoor instructors - this gives us a great breadth of outdoor learning expertise for designing interactive, hands-on and engaging sessions. All programmes are differentiated where needed and adapted to your requirements as well as the particular needs of your students.

Activities and Awards

Sessions can include achievement of various awards - paperwork, gathering evidence and assessment is included as part of the delivery of award schemes so there is no additional admin for you to undertake:

John Muir Discovery Award: explore, learn about and help to conserve the environment. Great to combine with curriculum areas and eco-friendly initiatives in school. Learn more about the John Muir Discovery Award;
Junior Award Scheme for Schools (JASS): JASS has different levels and four sections at each level - certificates are awarded for each section and give great opportunities for pupils to achieve as well as enhancing school credentials for OFSTED. See the full JASS page for more details. A great award for combining with others e.g. John Muir Discovery Award or Outdoor Discovery Award as well as tying in with curriculum areas;
Outdoor Discovery Award (ODA): perfect for combining with different curriculum areas (e.g. interactive Maths, Art and Design, Geography), the ODA has 3 levels based around engaging with the outdoors and learning navigation skills that can be applied to everyday life including making maps, journeying and understanding concepts such as use of symbols, timing and scales;
First Aid: learn essential first aid skills in an engaging way outdoors via a range of fun scenarios to enhance and embed learning. A great way to learn and develop skills for life;
Amazing Emotions / health and well-being: now more important than ever, combine attention focusing activities with fun and energising yoga adventures and our Amazing Emotions camp circle to provide a nourishing well-being toolkit that young people can dip into time and again when big feelings arise.

Key Stages and Curriculum areas

We are passionate about outdoor learning and helping you bring the curriculum to life in different ways using the outdoors. You can either:

Tell us the curriculum area, topic and what you want to get out of sessions: we design a programme appropriate to your key stage, aims and pupil needs based on the parameters you give us;
Have a particular activity in mind?: if you have an idea that you think would work well or that your pupils would enjoy, let us know and we'll work out how things could best be delivered around your curriculum needs;
Combine with recognised awards or training: many curriculum areas are perfect for combining with different awards and training meaning that young people can undertake cross-curriculur enrichment and different certificates together. See above for more details - these options can be particularly useful with OFSTED preparation in mind.

Health, Well-Being and Personal Development

All sessions inherently include personal and social development including health and exercise activities, peer interaction, team working and leadership opportunities for each individual pupil.

You may wish to take this further to have one or more aspect of personal development as the main focus of sessions. Sessions that work well on this theme include:

John Muir Award and nature yoga: Deliver the John Muir Discovery Award over a series of sessions and combine with nature-themed yoga sessions outdoors to raise heart rates and introduce different tools for everyday mindfulness and calm in a fun and engaging way;
JASS: A personal development award in it's own right - this award has different levels that work from Year 1 through to managing the transition into Year 7 at secondary school. Combine with other awards or sessions such as youth yoga to enhance well-being tools for young people;
JASS, John Muir Award and Outdoor Discovery Award: Deliver JASS over a series of sessions focusing on conservation team projects and shared goals for your school as part of the John Muir Award and combine with being active and journeying through nature on the Outdoor Discovery Award;
Outdoor Discovery Award and First Aid: A great match to develop personal skills for life with first aid training put into fun outdoor scenarios combined with learning to find your way outside with navigation skills and work on symbols and creative maps;
Amazing Emotions / outdoor yoga: explore nature and equip young people with different tools to help with big or challenging emotions. Simple breathing exercises are combined with fun natured-themed yoga to help young people find stillness and calm with both themselves and their peers. Includes circle time, stories, creativity, imagination and we'd love to throw in a camp fire if you have space for one!

Summer School

During the Summer holidays, we will be delivering sessions in school to provide Summer school, tutoring and 'catch up curriculum' support.

As with our Sessions at School, all non term-time provision is tailored to your pupils and the curriculum areas that you need to focus on - our aim is to continue to maximise time and opportunities to for learning using creative outdoor programmes. Weave in additional awards and cross-curricular learning to enhance programmes as you think might benefit pupils best.

CPD for teachers: taking learning outside the classroom

If you have ideas for working with your pupils that you'd like to take outside of the classroom but aren't quite sure where you stand with everything or would like to feel more confident in doing so, we have a range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses that can help.

Choose from either in person, online or hybrid courses to meet your needs and receive accreditation from our technical adviser course leader staff to confidently bring the benefits of the outdoors to your work.

Cost and booking

We know that cost is a hugely important factor - using transparent pricing (no hidden extras) and providing real value for money is incredibly important to us. All programmes are designed to represent quality for price and financial support via bursaries are offered where pupils may otherwise not be unable to participate as part of our not-for-profit status.

Sessions at School start from as little as £10.00 per person, per session (depending on session length, group size and activities chosen). Variables can be tailored to match your budget as needed and a programme price for a block of sessions across a term or school year might be more cost effective.

If particular award schemes are undertaken, a small charge for the registration cost of awards and issue of certificates/badges may be incurred. These are generally £10.00 or less per award.

While COVID-19 might still present issues, our COVID-19 Secure Booking policy protects your booking and monies paid in case changes need to be made to your programme.

We recognise that there are a huge number of demands on your time and ensure that setting up programmes in school is a clear and straight forward process for you.

Your Programme Manager works collaboratively with you to ensure that sessions meet your aims and needs. We are on hand to answer questions before, during and after delivery as needed.

A comprehensive School Information Pack is produced for your EVC/SLT/Headteacher: this includes all information that you and your school need to get the sessions set up and signed off for delivery. Our processes are designed to ensure a transparent, stress-free process from start to finish.
