Join us for Wildlife & Conservation activities in the Peak District. Usually delivered over five days, this programme is based on our popular Wildlife & Conservation residential weeks which we’ve run in the Peak District and Isle of Arran since 2012. We have some great projects lined up and are excited to introduce these programmes as activity days.
The programme can be delivered for anyone 5 years +
Our friendly instructors delivering the week are specialists in ecology, wildlife and conservation, and outdoor adventure. For our Wildlife weeks we usually partner with various organisations within the Peak District National Park to make this a memorable and exciting week having delved deeper into the local landscape, habitats and conservation. There is the opportunity to complete the certificated John Muir Discovery Award as part of this programme.

What to expect
You don't need any previous experience to join us - just a willingness to get stuck in and have a good time.
We'll work with the weather each day but typical projects and activities include:
- Wildlife spotting - spotting some of the flora and fauna of our beautiful National Park. Different birds, mammals, plants and fungi, depending on the time of year;
- Surveying - recording our observations for different surveys within the Peak District National Park;
- Clearing and protecting - helping to clear litter from different sites so that wildlife is impacted as little as possible;
- Ranger projects - joining local Peak District rangers to help with their work and learn about local projects;
We have a range of different seasonal projects to share with you, and these may vary across seasons, weeks and years.

What's included
- Training, coaching, instruction and guiding from experienced outdoor professionals (all holding relevant qualifications, outdoor first aid and enhanced DBS safeguarding checks);
- A wide range of conservation activities, including the opportunity to get involved in real-life projects;
- All specialist equipment used as part of sessions.
What do I need to bring?
You’ll receive a full kit list upon booking, but please be assured that you won’t need any expensive or specialist kit or equipment. Apart from your personal kit, such as waterproofs, sturdy shoes and water bottles, for example, we will provide activity-specific equipment.
A summary of what you’ll need:
- Appropriate clothing and footwear;
- Packed lunch, snacks, waterbottle;
- A readiness for adventures!

Adventure for all!
Adventure Expeditions is a not-for-profit entity and we are committed to widening participation in the outdoors for young people of all ages. We love what we do and want to share that with you. Remember, you don't need to have any previous experience of any kind to join our Adventure Days - all we ask is that you arrive with enthusiasm to explore!
Childcare vouchers: Our application to accept childcare vouchers is in progress, and we hope to be able to accept these very soon. If you have a young person who is keen to take part, please get in touch and we will see if we can support you through our bursary scheme instead.
If you have any additional needs or specific requirements that you would like to discuss in advance of making a booking or joining us for a programme, please do call and chat to us. We are an experienced staff team (including primary and secondary school teachers) and can work with you to ensure that our programmes are accessible for you and meet your needs as far as we can.

Where? Venues for the week
We will take advantage of our instructors local knowledge to visit the best locations for both the weather and conservation projects to suit the time of year and conditions. Full directions and information about drop off and pick up points for each day will be communicated to you via email or message beforehand so we can take best advantage of current opportunities.
All venues will be based close to the Hope Valley to minimise travel times from Sheffield - locations such as the area around Hathersage, Burbage Valley, Longshaw and Grindleford would be typical examples of drop off locations to give you an idea on where you'll be heading.
John Muir Award
If you are joining for the five-day option, it is possible to undertake the certificated John Muir Discovery Award as part of the programme. We will automatically include this for anyone booking for the five-day option unless we hear otherwise from you. There is no additional cost and activities to meet the award requirements will be included across the programme. We really enjoy delivering this award and are excited to share it with you.
