Adventurous Residential Programmes

Designed for students aged 11 - 18 years, AE outdoor activity residentials are tailored to bring out the best in your students as well as being a great deal of fun.

Our aim is for students to go away with plenty of memories, increased confidence and a greater connection to themselves, their peers and the world around them. Residentials are great for:

  • Transition to secondary education / part of the settling in process;
  • Curriculum enhancement weeks;
  • School leaving camps;
  • End of year residentials;
  • Form / class / year group personal, social, health and wellbeing education programmes;
  • BTEC course modules;
  • GCSE rock climbing programmes.

All residentials are designed collaboratively with you to ensure that they are tailored to your students and your specific aims.

Authentic Adventure supporting image

Authentic Adventure

Learning Away was originally founded and developed by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to develop, pilot and evaluate 'the impact of residential experiences as an integral part of the curriculum' on the learning, achievement and well-being of young people.

Learning Away worked with 60 partner schools over 5 years to develop the criteria for high-quality residential learning that make a 'Brilliant Residential' including:

  • integrated with the school curriculum and ethos;
  • inclusive and affordable for all students;
  • collaboratively planned to meet student learning needs and reinforce learning back in school;
  • designed to include new and memorable experiences;
  • rigorously evaluated.

Adventure Expeditions have pledged support to create Brilliant Residentials and life-changing opportunities as set out by Learning Away.

Our ethos is firmly rooted in authentic adventure, collaborative planning with you and challenge by choice for your students.

Inclusivity and Affordability supporting image

Inclusivity and Affordability

Ensuring that programmes are accessible is a cornerstone of what we do. Residentials are planned around the needs of your students and we are experienced in making adjustments to programmes and remaining flexible to accommodate a wide range of physical, mental, emotional, cultural, religious and dietary needs on top of any specific aims that you have to focus on.

There is much flexibility in the format, duration, location, accommodation and activities included in residentials and therefore much flexibility in developing a residential to match your price range or budget.

For those students that might face a financial barrier to taking part, we have a range of options and potential sources of support through our bursary and awards schemes.

Stress Free Planning supporting image

Stress Free Planning

Our first step is to sit down and chat through all aspects of your residential with you - we look at your aims and needs and work through the different possible options within your parameters to ensure that you end up with the residential that you want.

We'd love to hear your ideas and see how we can weave them together to bring you a programme that provides real value to your students.

We enjoy the planning process and want to ensure that you do too - our aim is to make things stress free for you to organise and an enjoyable experience to bring to your school and students.

Safety & Staffing supporting image

Safety & Staffing

Safety is of primary importance on all of our programmes. We work hard to ensure that pupils can experience authentic adventures and educate them on hazard perception and assessing risk as part of the sessions that we deliver, giving valuable insight to take back into everyday life. Full details of our safety credentials, licences and quality assurance information can be found here.

We recognise that planning a residential can often feel daunting when there are already so many demands on your time as a teacher. From working with a variety of schools and groups, we have developed a planning strategy that is designed to make the process as stress-free for leaders as possible so that you can focus on the benefits that you would like your residential to bring to pupils, both during their time with us and back in the classroom afterwards.
