Who We Are
Adventure Expeditions (AE) is a not-for-profit outdoor education provider based in the heart of the Peak District in Hathersage. AE runs a wide range of outdoor education programmes for young people and all operating surplus is used to further our organisational aim of widening participation in the outdoors for young people as well as educating young people about the natural environment and working to conserve and protect it. Our courses operate across the Peak District as well as throughout the UK and we offer a variety of courses to young and adult visitors to the Peak District to enjoy the outdoor adventures on offer: rock climbing, abseiling, weaselling, scrambling, hill walking, learning to navigate, mountain biking, caving and running training and assessment courses for adults taking steps to become outdoor instructors themselves.
Conserving and Clearing
Conserving, protecting and being mindful of the natural world around us are important messages for us to bring to our work with young people in the outdoors. Between our core staff team, AE dedicates 14 working days to the following as are needed most during any given year:
Clearing litter and fly tipping - there has been a significant rise in both litter and fly tipping and we support the work of local National Park organisations in clearing and disposing of waste left by others;
Repairing, clearing and building - helping to maintain the local environment through different projects such as footpath restoration, repairing dry stone walls and clearing back invasive species such as rhododendrons;
Observing and surveying - local flora and fauna populations can be impacted in a range of different ways by local and visitor populations to the Peak District National park (with 13.25 million visitors reported in 2018!) and being part of regular initiatives to observe and survey flora and fauna plays a vital role in conserving and protecting it.

Inspiring the next generation
We work across the UK and Europe, but core to our ethos is engaging with and supporting our local community; encouraging the next generation to not only play in but also to protect their local environment.
We're forging links throughout the Peak District and we're regularly awarded grant funding to further our aim of widening participation in the outdoors and awareness of this place along with highlighting the challenges associated with maintaining it.
