Jen Roberts - AE instructor

Our instructor, Jen, tells us why she's made a career out of what she loves - the outdoors.

What does being in the outdoors mean to you?

"For me the outdoors is synonymous with freedom. It may sound clichéd but it is my place to get away from everyday life, a space to think, to appreciate its beauty and challenge myself on my own terms. I have learned so much about our natural world and myself by having the opportunity to disappear into nature. I think everyone should have the opportunity to find out what being in the outdoors means to them."

How have these experiences shaped who you are today?

“Quite simply, I love going away on expeditions, looking after myself in far flung corners of the world, and I enjoy teaching others these skills so they can have adventures of their own. Once you know the basics, the world is your oyster!”

What would you say was your most significant/ memorable experience in the outdoors to date?

“This has to be the two first ascents I completed in a remote area of Greenland. I completed a month long expedition with four friends in the Stauning Alps. We skied along two glaciers, camping in the snow and exploring the mountains - it was magical!”
