Exploring the Isle of Arran and its wildlife
Join us on the stunning Isle of Arran in Scotland and complete your John Muir Discovery Award.
The aim of the residential is to explore the Isle of Arran and to learn about its conservation, ecology and wildlife. Our Residential also offers the opportunity to get involved in current conservation projects whilst achieving your Gold DofE Residential and the John Muir Guardian Award.
John Muir Award: Discover, Explore, Conserve, Share
Each day you will meet different aspects of the John Muir Guardian Award. You will explore a range of habitats and discover some of the Isle of Arran's fascinating wildlife.
Activities include: exploring the local beaches and completing a beach clean, exploring the highest mountain on Arran (Goat Fell) and getting involved with some conservation work alongside the Arran rangers. From the scientific to the creative, this residential caters for every type of conservation enthusiast.
Location - Our instructor team will meet you off the ferry at Brodick on the Isle of Arran and we’ll give you detailed information on how to get to Arran. Full details of locations & timings are in the Joining Information which is accessible in your account upon booking.
Participants will be required to travel to the Isle of Arran independently. Please note that whilst ferries to Arran are usually very reliable, there is a small possibility that ferries can’t run due to poor weather conditions. Because of this, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance for your residential week to cover any travel disruptions. Note that AE are unable to cover any additional costs incurred due to unforeseen disruptions.
Accommodation - You'll stay in a local bunkhouse. All bunkhouses have fully equipped kitchens and separate male/ female bathrooms. Please get in touch if you require gender neutral facilities so we can look at options with you. Note that you may need to bring your own sleeping bag, pillow and towel.
Food - Food is included for the duration of your programme. We'll provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners and also have plenty of snacks. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know well in advance so we can cater for you.

These programmes are set up for participants who are completely independent and can attend without any additional support. If you (or the person you're booking for) has any additional needs please contact us before booking; we'll be able to advise on suitability and discuss whether any necessary adjustments can be made.
